Inverted Vertical Turning Machine Handles Parts to 15.75 In. Diameter

EMCO Maier has expanded its line of compact, heavy-duty inverted vertical turning machines with the Vertical VT400. This machine was designed with integrated automation for complete machining of cast or forged chucking parts to 15.75 in. dia. It uses the machine spindle and chuck to load and unload parts.

This machine performs turning as well as drilling and milling operations to complete parts with swing diameters to 17.7 in., lengths to 8 in., and part weights of up to 88 lbs.

With its vertical, water-cooled, high-torque, high-power 48-HP, 4,000-RPM spindle, the machine is suitable for turning, drilling, and threading operations even in tough materials, the company states.

The direct-driven axis travel is 37.8, 15.75, +/- 3.5 in. in X, Z, and the optional Y axes. The main spindle has torque of 442 ft.-lbs. with special horsepower and torque configurations available for very difficult applications.

The machine carries 12 driven VDI40 toolholders capable of 5,000 RPM and 29.5 ft.-lbs. of torque.

The machine maximizes rigidity and stability with a steel-welded frame construction with a sand mixture for vibration damping in the machine bed.

It features the Siemens Sinumerik 828D control with an option for Siemens ShopTurn conversational programming and the Fanuc 0i control.

The basic machine also includes a coolant device and a chip conveyor.
