Joint Open House Celebrates 10th Year

Sourcing new shop floor equipment can be a daunting task. But thanks to the efforts of six Ontario-based machine tool builders and distributors, this process can be a little more streamlined. This year’s joint open house takes place April 21 - 23.

An extra day isn’t the only thing that has been added this year. Now, fabrication equipment builder TRUMPF Canada has joined the event.

This joint open house, held annually since 2006, is sponsored by machine tool distributors and builders based in Mississauga and Oakville, Ont. The participants are DMG Mori Canada, Elliott Matsuura Canada, EMEC Machine Tools, Ferro Technique, Single Source Technologies (SST) Canada, and TRUMPF Canada. The event gives customers the opportunity to see the latest technology available from all six companies.

“Our customers get a chance to see a lot more technology than they could see in a traditional open house setting,” explained Brian Donnelly, president of Ferro Technique. “We also try to create a relaxed atmosphere so the visitors really get a chance to talk to us as well as our suppliers. Ten years ago we started out with this plan, and I think it has really worked out well.”

In addition to the machine tools on display from multiple machine tool builders, auxiliary equipment and tooling suppliers will be on hand at all locations to answer questions on topics such as machine tool accessories, software, and consumables.

The six companies will provide transportation to and from all the locations, and light meals and refreshments will be available throughout the day.

Prizes are available to attendees who visit the DMG Mori, Elliott Matsuura, EMEC, Ferro Technique, and SST Canada open houses. A grand prize of a $10,000 tooling certificate and four additional $5,000 certificates are being supplied by Sandvik. In addition, any company that visits these same five locations will receive eight hours of free service from one of the distributors in 2015.
