SK collet chuck optimizes machine tool performance

Lyndex-Nikken has released SK collet chucks with an advanced design that optimizes machine tool performance, the company states.

The design of this SK collet chuck provides increased rigidity and gripping force as well as the ability to reach tight spaces. Because of its heat treatment, grinding, and custom slotting process, a 5-µm runout tolerance is guaranteed for its on-size fractional and metric precision collets.

A titanium nitride (TiN) bearing nut improves rigidity, and a gold ring reduces collet damage, reduces microvibration with the collet flange, and eliminates friction with the collet.

The taper angle provides increased gripping power because the 8-degree collet seats deeper in the body of the holder, providing double the clamping force and precision than traditional 16-degree collets, the company reports.

These SK collet chucks are available in Taper Plus, which combines taper accuracy with flange rigidity. They also are available with coolant-through options.
