The FANUC iMed wire EDM from Methods Machine Tools Inc. was specially configured for continuous-duty production of parts such as medical instruments, implants, and aerospace components.
This EDM is ideal for the production of surgical instruments, needles, stainless steel tubing and rods, orthopedic implements, dental tools and devices, laboratory equipment components, turbine engine vanes and blades, and PCD tooling/tips, says the company.
This machine uses brass wire with diameters from 0.004 to 0.012 in. and comes with many standard features, including a heavy-duty, antielectrolysis power supply; an energy-saving, inverter-controlled dielectric chiller; an AC servo-controlled water level for the worktank; and a FANUC 310i-WA CNC.
The control provides nanointerpolation and features a 15-in. touchscreen, an interactive parts/maintenance assistance system, multiple USB ports, and Ethernet connectivity.
Adaptive workpiece thickness control, straightness and corner control, and adaptive pulse discharge control helps to ensure precision and maximize cutting speed under varying conditions, such as poor flushing or interrupted cuts.
Accuracy is further enhanced by a thermally insulated cast Meehanite® base and table travels with no load overhang during table movement.
Ball screws in the X and Y axes are double-anchored and encapsulated to prevent contamination.
