Tooling System for Rough Turning

Iscar has introduced the DoveIQTurn, a tooling system with a new dovetail pocket design combined with a lever clamping mechanism, which enable firm and rigid insert clamping and eliminate the need for the top clamp, which can interfere with chip flow.

With a dovetail clamping system, there is no interference and the chips flow uninterrupted, the company reports.

Because of the open, unobstructed chip former configuration, the company’s new, double-sided inserts with dovetailed flanks can run up to 1.0 mm/rev.

The clamping mechanism holds double-sided inserts featuring double- negative prism flanks. The dovetail pocket and prismatic flanks prevent the insert from being lifted by the cutting forces.

The system’s double-sided inserts are available in three insert geometries with prismatic flanks: WOMG-R3P-IQ, COMG-R3P-IQ, and SOMG-R3P-IQ designed with a new R3P chip former for rough turning of steel.
