Runout Adjustment System Improves Collet Holder Accuracy

NT Tool has released the HDZ collet holder, which uses the company’s “R” Zero system, a four-point adjustment mechanism that adjusts runout at the tool tip to as low as 0 to 2 µm. Reduced runout improves surface roughness and hole diameter consistency making the new holders suitable for use with ball end mills or reamers, the company states.

The four-point adjustment system is simple, and the full procedure can be completed in less than a minute. Setup only requires a spanner to tighten the collet and an adjustment wrench for the runout-adjustment screws. The adjustment ring rotates, allowing runout to be adjusted from any angle.

These holders use the company’s 12-degree taper FDC collets. Metal-sealed coolant-compatible FDC collets work without sealing rings, further decreasing downtime for routine setup and maintenance, the company states.

The holders are available in HSK, CAT (standard and two-face contact), BT (standard and two-face contact), and UTS shank styles. Standard collets cover a chucking range of ⌀0.020 to ⌀0.866 in., and custom sizes are available.
