Duratomic process

According to Seco Tools Canada, the company’s new grade TP3500 offers significantly improved edge toughness and wear resistance in demanding applications that require long and consistent tool life.

The new grade was created with the Duratomic™ process, in which the aluminum oxide crystalline structure is manipulated at the atomic level to produce the coating.

TP3500 can handle a range of applications from finishing to heavy interrupted cuts and performs well with or without coolant, says the manufacturer.

Speeds as high as 1,400 SFPM for soft steels and 800 SFPM for structural steels at aggressive feed rates are possible.

This grade completes Seco’s Duratomic offering for steel turning, which also includes TP1500 for stable conditions/high productivity, and TP2500 as a first choice general-purpose tool.  Like the other Duratomic grades, TP3500 is offered many insert geometries to cover turning applications from finishing to heavy roughing, in which toughness is of major importance.
