Coated Slitting Tools

Iscar’s TANGSLIT family of slitting tools combines the clamping force of the company’s TANG-GRIP and the durability of the SUMO TEC insert grades.

In the patented clamping system, inserts are press-fit into their pockets with a special hand tool and are held in place without clamps, upper jaws, or set screws. The pocket design uses cutting forces to keep the insert seated in position, eliminating any risk of insert pullout.  This clamping style also creates more accurate slitting cuts and lengthens pocket and insert life, the company states.

The insert grades have a postcoating treatment that improves tool life and reliability. The treatment smoothes the insert’s coated surface to eliminate microscopic stress raisers, reduce heat and friction, and improve chip flow.  The result is improved toughness and resistance to chipping and built-up edge (BUE).

The new cutters are available in diameters from 100 to 160 mm, and widths of 3 and 4 mm. Additional sizes will be added.
