Delcam has launched version 10 of its PowerMILL CAM system and version 2010 of its FeatureCAM and PartMaker CAM systems. The new releases have many improvements but the major enhancements are the latest in background processing, multithreading, and five-axis simultaneous milling.
With background processing in PowerMILL 10, users can prepare data in the foreground while calculating toolpaths in the background. This eliminates the need for the user to wait for each calculation to be completed before he can start preparing the next operation.
The new multithreading capabilities in both PowerMILL and FeatureCAM 2010 allow individual calculations to be divided between the cores in a multicore machine.
While five-axis simultaneous milling has been implemented inside PowerMILL and FeatureCAM for some time, it is fairly new in the area of Swiss-type lathes. This new milling capability in PartMaker 2010, along with other enhancements such as improved thread whirling visualization makes it particularly suited to medical device manufacturers.
