Additive Manufacturing System Designed to Product Small Quantities

EOS has introduced the EOS M 100, a new system for direct metal laser sintering (DMLS®).

This machine is suitable for manufacturers entering into additive manufacturing. With its small build volume, which is based on a round build platform with a diameter of 100 mm, the system focuses on the production of small quantities. For example, it can produce approximately 70 dental crowns and bridges in three hours.

Initially the system can process two types of materials, EOS CobaltChrome SP2 and EOS StainlessSteel 316L. EOS Titanium Ti64 is still in the development stage and will be the next material to be made available.

The system features a 200-W fiber laser, which, because of its beam quality and performance stability, ensures optimum and consistent processing conditions, resulting in reproducible part quality, the company states. This feature and a smaller laser spot with small detail resolution make it possible to produce high-quality, highly-complex, and delicate components, says the manufacturer.
