Control for Milling and Turning Machines

Heidenhain has released the TNC 640 milling machine control that has optional turning functions.

With this control, turning operations can be performed on a milling machine, allowing operators to transition from milling to turning cycles in the same program. The turning operations are programmed in plain text, just like the familiar milling operations, and comprehensive turning cycles are available for frequently repeated operations, such as roughing, finishing recessing, and thread cutting.

It is based on the Heidenhain Serial Controller Interface (HSCI), a digital interface hardware platform that reduces cabling during setup.

The smartSelect function simplifies selection of cycles, and syntax color highlighting improves clarity for the editing of machining programs, the company states.

This control has a 19-in. screen.
