Gleason Corp., Rochester, N.Y., has expanded its line of grinding wheels dedicated to bevel gear manufacturing.
The new wheels have been developed by combining advanced abrasive materials and wheel designs, enabling faster, more aggressive metal removal rates. According to the company, with these wheels, bevel gear grinding from a solid gear blank can become an economically viable alternative to the traditional process of rough cutting prior to grinding, with significant reductions in equipment and tool costs, setup times, and cycle times.
Beyond grinding from solid applications, the wheels can create virtually any bevel gear or Curvic® Coupling application in varying diameters. Precision also can vary from the accuracies generally needed in industrial applications to those needed in aircraft manufacturing, for example.
In addition, metal removal rates can be from low to very aggressive in both steels and very hard materials.
The company also offers electroplated as well as infiltrated and sintered grinding wheel dressing rolls.
