Insert Cutting Edge Produces Less Heat and Pressure

June 29, 2010

insert cutting edge

Dapra Corp. has expanded the Toroid RHINO-CARB™ CNC-pressed insert line with a new cutting edge geometry.

Available for round and octagonal inserts, the new Neutral, or N, cutting edge is suitable for steels, irons, and many stainless steels. Neutral inserts offer a higher positive edge preparation and rake angle than the company’s T-land, or T, counterparts, which creates less heat and pressure.

Three cutting edge options are now available. T inserts feature the strongest cutting edge and should be used where the heaviest cuts are taken, or where vibration or chatter may be causing edge damage. The new N geometry is intended for typical cutting applications in which high-performance milling of steels, irons, and 400-series stainless is desired. Dished, or D, inserts are suitable for applications in which the lowest tool pressure and higher shear are required.
