Walter Tools Launches iPhone App

Walter Tools, Waukesha, Wis., has launched an iPhone® app that manufacturers can use to determine cutting parameters and also to place orders.

Users can calculate cutting data while away from their PC, compare cost-efficiency of two tools, and order tools from the company’s Web site with this software. The app, Walter Tools & More, makes this possible while in a mobile environment.

“With Walter Tools & More, customers benefit from our comprehensive machining expertise while they are on the move,” said Walter AG Chief Executive Officer Andreas Evertz.

The app can be used to calculate the parameters for face, shoulder, and slot milling processes; holemaking, including both drilling and boring; and turning and grooving.

For these operations, the user can calculate torque, driving power, machining volume, machining time, cutting force, metal removal rate, and chip thickness by selecting the material and entering different machining parameters. The calculator also takes the material group, rake angle, machine efficiency, and wear factor into consideration.

The built-in savings calculator provides a cost comparison between two tool systems. Users can compare properties such as the costs for indexable inserts and bodies, the machine setting and the presetting hours, the spare machine capacity, as well as the savings per component and per batch or year.

Using this application, the user can order the correct tools online via the Walter Toolshop 24 hours a day. This provides a time-saving ordering process, access to the entire range of standard tools, up-to-date stock information, and an overview of the ordering and billing history.
