Haas Automation Owner Granted F1 Racing License

Gene Haas, founder and owner of Haas Automation and co-owner of NASCAR® Sprint Cup team Stewart- Haas Racing, has been granted a Formula 1® license and will enter a team in 2015 or 2016.

Speaking at a press conference, Haas explained his motivation for the application and how he expects the global marketing opportunities to benefit his company, as it aims to double worldwide sales over the next five years.

“There are a lot of F1 fans from China and the Far East to South America and Europe. We want Haas to become a household name. We have a very good market penetration in the U.S., and I think by entering Formula 1, we can achieve the same around the world,” said Haas.

The new Haas F1 team will be based in Kannapolis, N.C., on the campus of Stewart-Haas Racing. Team principal will be F1 veteran Guenther Steiner, who has extensive F1 technical and organizational experience with several teams, including Red Bull, Jaguar, and Mercedes.
