The Manufacturing Technology Network (MTN) is holding its annual conference at the University of Western Ontario’s Sarnia, Ont., campus in the SarniaLambton Research Park. The Nov. 3 event is sponsored by the University of Western Ontario and McMaster University.
According to the organizers, the event’s goal is to promote the value of innovation, technology, and collaboration in manufacturing. This year, in addition to the traditional interest in aerospace and automotive, the event will feature sessions on the bio-industry and process automation. Engineering leaders will present case studies of how their companies are using technology to tackle the manufacturing challenges of today and tomorrow.
Presentations of case studies from invited speakers will shed light on current industry issues.
MTN brings together companies from the process industries, energy sector, and manufacturers that use metals, composites, and ceramics. Suppliers of machine tools, tooling, materials, as well as academic institutions and government agencies are also involved in the project.
“We help companies optimize their processes and improve their profitability through exploitation of technology developed by our R&D and that of our partners,” explained MTN founder Dr. Steve Treiber. “We use process simulation, both offline and in real time, to develop new processes, experiment with existing processes, and optimize processes, which leads to increased profitability. We conduct experiments in our laboratories and trial runs in production facilities to perfect the implementation of technological solutions to real-world problems.”
The network exists to increase business opportunities and competitiveness for member companies by promoting innovation, adoption of technology, and collaboration to exploit complementary resources and shared knowledge.
The annual conferences typically feature key industry opinion leaders who make presentations on how innovation, technology, and collaboration have solved industrial problems. The lead speaker for this year’s session on machining and forming is Dr. Moshe Goldberg, head of training and technical support, Iscar Cutting Tools, Tefen, Israel.
